A South Bend kitchen, finished in two tones on the cabinetry that was already there: white above the counter, a darker shade below. The boxes stayed; the doors and drawer fronts came off to be sprayed.

Two tones is the change that reads as a new kitchen without being one. The eye takes the color break at the counter before it takes anything else, so a room can be reorganised visually without a single cabinet being replaced.

Refinishing rather than replacing

Generally: if the boxes are sound and the layout works, refinishing changes how the kitchen looks for a fraction of what replacing it costs, and it takes days rather than weeks. If the boxes are failing, or you want the layout changed, no finish fixes that and we will say so at the estimate.

The work itself is the same either way. Doors and drawer fronts are labeled and removed with their hardware, degreased, scuffed, filled where needed and primed, then sprayed flat in a controlled setting and left to cure before anyone touches them. Boxes and face frames are done in place. Then everything goes back and gets adjusted so the gaps line up.

Choosing two colors

The one thing worth deciding slowly. A two-tone kitchen lives or dies on where the break falls and how much contrast there is, and both read completely differently under the light your kitchen actually has than they do on a chip in a store. Look at samples in the room, at the time of day you use it most.

Two colors does not usually mean two prices. What moves the number is the count of doors and drawers and the condition of what is there, which is what the estimate visit is for.
